The Issue Of Sustainability, Is It Or Isn't It?
Palm Oil itself is not unsustainable at all. The issue is WHERE and HOW it is produced and obtained. The Online Dictionary defines Sustainability as:
''The quality of not being harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources, and thereby supporting long-term ecological balance"
Palm Oil Production in countries such as Borneo and Sumutra is not only destroying peatlands and rainforests, it is also
causing huge C02 emissions (due to burning of carbon-rich peat), killing endangered and exotic species (due to burning and habitat loss), and abusing indigenous peoples human rights (due to exploitation and mistreatment). Palm Oil is NOT a renewable resource, which means it will eventually run out and all future generations will be left with a damaged environment and atmosphere..
